Our History

FlightLogix was founded at Cincinnati’s Lunken Airport in 2005 by Greg Herrmann and Jay Schmalfuss by obtaining an aircraft management contract for owners of a King Air B200. Greg ran the maintenance department. Jay flew the King Air and ran the business aspect of the operation. For the first year and a half, day to day operations were simple. FlightLogix kept the King Air staged and ready, while the clients enjoyed a hands off ownership experience.

In late 2006 an opportunity arose to lease historic Hangar 1, which also included an additional 2,000 square foot building. Originally, the idea was to use the building for FlightLogix offices. Instead, Greg and Jay started a flight school. Lunken Flight Training Center was founded in 2006 and over the last two decades has become a leader in flight training as a Cessna Pilot Center and an FAA approved Part 141 school with self examining authority. FlightLogix continues to manage and perform the maintenance on LFTC’s fleet.

In 2008, FlightLogix was appointed as an Authorized Cirrus Service Center  FlightLogix is proud to be part of Cirrus’s worldwide network of over 250 Service Centers. FlightLogix offers warranty work, preventative maintenance, annual inspections, and CAPS (Cirrus Airframe Parachute System) overhauls.

FlightLogix expanded into Hangar 2 in 2012 which doubled its floorspace and ramp. This was a necessary step to accommodate both growing companies. Today, FlightLogix operates out of Hangar 1 and Lunken Flight Training Center’s home is Hangar 2. The original school building is now the “Annex” which contains the FlightLogix main lobby, offices, and additional briefing rooms for LFTC.

Sadly, we lost Greg Herrmann in 2020. Jay, along with two business partners, Dave Stewart and Paul Farina, rebuilt and invested in both companies. Today, Dave now leads our maintenance team and is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of safety for our clients.
